Cast Iron Apple Crisp

Apple Crisp is such an easy & filling dessert for the colder months. When I’m in the kitchen I typically don’t use precise measuring. I’ve included generally how much I use of each ingredient, but I encourage you to not measure & customize this recipe how your family likes.

What you’ll need:
cast iron skillet
a good knife
mixing bowl
apples (4)
cold grass-fed butter (1 stick)
cinnamon (2 tablespoons)
nutmeg (1 teaspoon)
maple syrup (1 ½ tablespoons)
oats (1 ½ cups)
optional: whey protein powder, (Promix Madagascar vanilla is my favorite)

Recipe:
Turn your oven to 400 degrees, heat up your cast iron skillet then peel & dice your apples.
Once the skillet is hot, add them along with a good dusting of cinnamon & a sprinkle of nutmeg.
Sauté the mixture until the apples are gooey & soft. If you choose to add protein powder once the apples start getting soft add it on top & combine until it dissolves.
While the apples are cooking down, add the oats, cinnamon, butter & maple syrup to the mixing bowl. (It helps to dice the cold butter into little cubes).
Using your fingers combine the ingredients to create a crumbly topping.
Once the apples are cooked to your liking, add the topping & bake in the oven until golden brown.

Serve however you like. We love vanilla ice cream, whipped cream or Greek yogurt to add some extra protein.
